Networking opportunities are all around us. Everywhere you turn, business is being conducted and the economy is developing. Since networking is taking place all the time it is important for business professionals, students and entrepreneurs to be prepared to network at all times. This means being properly or neatly dressed and presentable in public. You should carry plenty of business cards, fliers or marketing material. And you should be professional at all times.

Listed below are a few unexpected places where people can network and develop great business relationships!

#1 The Supermarket

Everyone needs to eat and the supermarket is one of the most unexpected places to do business. Most working professionals, students, entrepreneurs go to the supermarket to pick a range of household commodities whether they have a big family, small family or are single. You can start up friendly conversations while on the check out line, reading magazines, picking out cards for various holidays and celebrations, or waiting to pick up food at the bakery or meat section.

#2 The Airport

Airports are the traveling hubs for business professionals, students, entrepreneur alike. With plane delays, cancellations etc. people are constantly waiting and in a position to talk or start up small conversations. This is a great opportunity to strike up a conversation about the weather, trends, technology, travel, education and business. Great start up questions can include: Where are you traveling today? Are you traveling for work or leisure? How often do you travel? Where is home for you?

#3 Sporting Event

A major play off, world championship game or international game is a great way to bring people together. Sporting events are excellent venues for networking and building premature relationships. You may not necessarily discuss business during the event, but you can get to know your counterpart and later follow up to do business. Always make sure that you have a business card so that you can be contacted.

#4 Doctor's Office

There have been several changes within the health care system and people are constantly going to the doctor's office for check-ups and early detection testing. While in the waiting room or lobby, you can strike up a conversation and build your network. Typical questions to ask include: How did you hear about this doctor? If you were referred to he/she, who referred you? What is your profession? Where do you work?

#5 Child's School Events

If you have children and are active in the PTA or events in school, that is an excellent opportunity to network with the teachers, staff and parents of the school. Your attendance to these events will give you plenty of opportunities to get involved and meet several people as well as companies that work with the school system. You an also use this opportunity to develop programs and initiatives that will enhance the learning and educational system.
